Il formato Blu-Ray di Sony nel frattempo ha radunato altri grandi nomi nelle proprie schiere, per citarne alcuni: Sun Microsystems, Arts e Texas Instruments, che forniranno supporto Hardware e Software. Il formato porterà al debutto in via ufficiale ed in volumi nel 2006. Subito seguito dal formato HD-DVD che ha presentato nel quarto trimestre del 2005 i propri prodotti in volumi. Basti però ricordare che se Sony supporta il Blu-Ray, case come Paramount Home Entertainment, Warner Home Video, Universal Studios Home Entertainment, HBO e New Line Cinema hanno preferito l'HD-DVD. Alla fine è molto probabile che vedremo ripetersi la storia per DVD+ e DVD-.
